Balutia was an Arab province during the Muslim era, formed by the regions of Los Pedroches, Alcudia Valley, Guadiato Valley, and also part of the regions of La Siberia, La Serena, Vegas Altas, and the Alto y Medio Guadalquivir.
Inspired by the research carried out by the Balutia Cultural Association, which led to the idea of this route, we overlapped the borders of Balutia onto the current map.
Since then, we have continued researching, traveling along paths, and connecting sections to design a route that flirts with this historical boundary, prioritizing adventure and the cycling experience.
Unmatched landscapes, dream gravel tracks, and winding roads with mid-mountain passes.
3 different autonomous communities.
The territory of Balutia is located in the southern half of the Iberian Peninsula.
Córdoba in Andalusia, Ciudad Real in Castilla-La Mancha, and Badajoz in Extremadura are the provinces that Balutia passes through.
There are 3 towns that serve as vertices: Hornachuelos to the south, Puertollano to the northeast, and Don Benito to the northwest.
Pozoblanco, in the region of Los Pedroches (Córdoba), is the town that hosts the start and finish of the loop that defines this adventure.
A large number of towns, varying greatly in size, are crossed along the route. Among them, we can highlight some by province:
High overhead that silent throne
Of wild and cloud-betravelled sky
That makes one’s loneliness more lone
Sends forth a crank and reedy cry.
I look: the crane is sailing o’er
That pathless world without a mate;
The heath looked brown and dull before
But now ’tis more than desolate.
